With a free account, you can download the home version of WavePad for Windows, and inside the audio editor, you get 100% royalty-free access to sound effects.

  1. Download WavePad from NCH Software
  2. Once you download and install WavePad, it will launch automatically.
  3. Go to “Tools” and select “Sound Libary” ( Tools > Sound Library)
  4. Inside the pop-up launched program you can search and download sounds to use for your videos, podcasts, etc.

There is a pro version of this software, however, it is not required to make use of the sound effects library.

  1. Go to the shop and get your free sound effects download
  2. Download the Zip file
  3. Extract the contents into the best location. (7zip.org offers a free unarchiving solution for Windows, Linux, and Mac.)
  4. Drag and drop the sound effects into your video timeline as needed

Sound effects provided by external sources are will either be provided to you as a direct MP3 download or you will get a zip archive.

  • Make sure your resource files such as graphic elements, sound effects, overlays, and other media are put in their own area so you can quickly navigate to them and use them.
  • Make sure your resource files have relatable names that can be well understood. It’s a lot easier to know “Swoosh 1.mp3” from “Sw128kpbs.mp3” or “Aug13_S_093103_audio.mp3”
